IESR: Renewable Energy Sector Will Create 3.2 Million Jobs

JAKARTA - Energy Transformation Program Manager Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) Deon Arinaldo projects that the renewable energy sector has the potential to create as many as 3.2 million jobs. "We calculate jobs created from renewable energy that are built quite massively supply chain, installation installation resources, maintenance, and so on, it is around 3.2 million jobs," said Deon, in Bekasi, West Java, quoted from Antara, Wednesday 24 January. Deon added that these figures do not include job potentials that indirectly contribute to the renewable energy sector, such as industry, manufacturing supply chain, and others. However, Deon estimates that there are 1.3 million jobs that already exist will be lost, especially in the fossil-based energy sector. "So there are 3.2 (work fields) created, but currently there are about 1.3 million (work fields) in fossils (hotel-based energy sectors), in oil and gas (oil and gas), coal, and their supporting sectors may be structured," said Deon. According to Deon, workers in the affected fossil-based energy sector are not immediately re-employed to work in the renewable energy sector. Oleh, Deon emphasized the importance of implementing a fair energy transition in order to anticipate the potential loss of jobs because of the renewable energy sector. "Perhaps we can adopt best practices and in accordance with the Indonesian context," said Deon again.

Menurut dokumen resmi Organisasi Perburuhan Internasional/International Labour Organization (ILO) bertajuk “Lembar Fakta tentang Pekerjaan yang Layak dan Ramah Lingkungan (Green Jobs) di Indonesia, "green job" atau pekerjaan ramah lingkungan bertujuan untuk mengurangi dampak lingkungan yang diakibatkan oleh perusahaan dan sektor ekonomi hingga ke tingkat yang mampu melestarikan lingkungan hidup.Secara khusus, hal itu mencakup pekerjaan yang dapat membantu melindungi ekosistem dan biodiversitas; mengurangi energi, materi, dan konsumsi air melalui strategi yang memiliki tingkat efisiensi tinggi; dekarbonisasi perekonomian; serta mengurangi atau mencegah pembuatan segala bentuk limbah dan polusi.
