JAKARTA - The construction of access to the Makassar New Port (MNP) toll road which is one of the national strategic projects (PSN) has so far reached 73.03 percent.

President Director of PT Makassar Metro Network (MMN) Ismail Malliungan said the progress of development is entering the completion stages of various work structures.

"In percentage terms, it has reached 73.03 percent. Now it has entered the stage of finishing the direction box girder using the shoeing method," he said, quoted from Antara, Thursday, July 13.

Ismail Malliungan explained that the 3.2 kilometer (km) Makassar New Port (MNP) Toll Access Road project was carried out by a subsidiary of PT Nusantara Infrastructure Tbk in the toll road sector.

The next stage of work is the installation of Lead Rubber Bearing (LRB), asphalting and also ramp at-grade relocation work. LRB itself is one type of earthquake protection system consisting of steel plates in a round and connected to rubber solids.

The construction of the MNP Toll Access Road will later facilitate access to logistics mobilization as well as encourage economic growth in Makassar City.

This project will be connected from the Makassar Reform Toll Road (JTSE Toll Road) to the Makassar New Port Container Port and from the Makassar Industrial Estate (Kima) to the Makassar New Port Container Port.

The existence of this toll road is also expected to facilitate export and import routes through ports connecting Makassar with other cities in South Sulawesi and surrounding provinces.

Not only that, this project is also expected to be a solution in unraveling congestion for goods transportation or logistics with direct access to and from MNP. Thus, the existence of the MNP Toll Road will support the operation of the Makassar Port of New Port.

The MNP Toll Access Road construction project will be carried out in three stages. The first stage is carried out starting from the direction of the old port (Section 1 Toll Road) to MNP. Meanwhile, the second phase of construction is carried out from the direction of the Airport (Makassar Section IV Toll Road) to the MNP.

The first and second stages are carried out simultaneously while the third stage from MNP to the airport will be carried out at the next stage.

The toll road access to Makassar New Port is a National Strategic Project (PSN) for central government development which will be carried out by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through Toll Road Business Entities.

"Meanwhile, the land acquisition for this project is carried out by PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo)," he said.
