JAKARTA - PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) is exploring the development of a 1,300 MW Wind Power Plant (PLTB) in South China and other renewable energy developments in Indonesia. The move was stated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between PTBA and a company from China, China Huadian Corporation (CHD).

PTBA President Director Arsal Ismail said this collaboration with CHD is one of PTBA's steps to realize the vision of becoming a world-class energy and chemical company that cares about the environment.

"This is also in line with the Government's target to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060 or earlier", he said in an official statement, Wednesday, November 2.

Arsal added that PTBA can gain experience in PLTB development as well as contribute to energy conservation, emission reduction, and sustainable development. Through this collaboration, PTBA also wants to accelerate the development of NRE in Indonesia.

"We hope there will be a transfer of technology. In addition, we want CHD to be able to also develop PLTB in Indonesia. We will look for suitable locations for PLTB development", he said.

Meanwhile, the President Director of China Huadian Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. (CHDOI) Fang Zheng, and President Director of Huadian Guangxi Energy Co., Ltd. (CHDGX) Duan Xi Ming stated that his party welcomed the plan to develop PLTB together with PTBA in China and the joint plan to develop renewable energy in Indonesia.

"As before, cooperation with PTBA has been well established in the construction of PLTU Sumsel-8. We hope that this cooperation plan can run smoothly as expected with the support of the Chinese Government and the Indonesian Government", said Fang Zheng.

In a performance presentation on Thursday, October 27, Arsal said PTBA would hold a minority stake in the cooperation to build the power plant.

To expand its portfolio in the NRE sector, PTBA has developed several Solar Power Plants (PLTS). In collaboration with PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero), PTBA built PLTS with a capacity of 241 kilowatt-peak (kWp) at the Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC) Building. This PLTS has been fully operational since October 2020.

PTBA is also collaborating with the Jasa Marga Group for the development of PLTS on toll roads. On September 21, 2022, the PLTS with a capacity of 400 Kilowatt-peak (kWp) on the Bali-Mandara Toll Road was completed and inaugurated.

Then at the 2022 SoE International Conference in Bali on October 18, 2022, PTBA explored the potential for cooperation in PV mini-grid development at the operational location of the Semen Indonesia Group (SIG).

Currently, PTBA has several ex-mining lands that can be used for the development of PLTS. Among them is the post-Ombilin mining area in West Sumatra covering an area of 201 hectares (ha), Tanjung Enim (South Sumatra) covering an area of 224 hectares, and in Bantuas (East Kalimantan). The potential of PLTS in each of these lands reaches 200 Megawatts (MW).
