JAKARTA - Police in India have arrested five people in the aftermath of an attack by several international students at a university dormitory during Ramadan prayers. It is still a matter of physical attack on the victim triggered by the location of the prayer which was held at the Gujarat University in western India, Saturday, March 16. Reporting from the BBC, the police said five students were being treated for injuries. Meanwhile, according to the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government has taken firm action against the perpetrators. City police commissioner Ahmedabad GS Malik said about two dozen people entered the dormitory on Saturday night with objections to the students who were praying. They asked for prayers to be performed in mosques only. "They debated this issue, attacked them and threw stones at them. They also damaged their rooms," Malik was quoted as saying by the BBC. A team has been formed to investigate the case. Another senior police officer, Tarun Duggal, told BBC Gujati that the names of five people arrested were Hitesh Mewada, Bharat Patel, Totalij Pandey, Jitendra Patel, and Sunil Dudhirua. They haven't made any public statements while in police custody. He added that more people might be caught soon. Police have not confirmed whether those people are linked to any political or religious organization.
Journalists from BBC Gujari who visited the venue on Saturday said they saw damaged stones and vehicles at the scene. Videos circulating on the internet show the masses waving Hindu religious slogans as they attack students, damage vehicles, and stone-throw.
