Ciliwung River Overflows, Hundreds Of Houses Of Residents Of Kebon Pala, East Jakarta Submerged By 75 Cm Flood

JAKARTA - The overflow of Ciliwung River began to inundate residential areas since 15:20 WIB and reached its highest point at 19.00 WIB. As a result, hundreds of houses in Kebon Pala, RW 04 and RW 05, Kampung Melayu Village, Jatinegara District, East Jakarta, were flooded up to 75 centimeters (cm).

"Now the water level reaches 75 cm. The houses affected by the flood are estimated to reach 250 housing units because four RTs were submerged," said Head of RT 13/RW 04 Sanusi in Kebon Pala, Thursday, March 14.

Sanusi suspects that the flood was triggered by the flow of water from Bogor and Depok, because the water level at Katulampa Dam and Depok Monitoring Post was recorded to have risen to Alert 3.

The high intensity of heavy rain that has flushed the DKI Jakarta area since Thursday morning has also caused the Ciliwung River's water discharge to overflow into residential areas in the Kebon Pala area.

"From the morning at around 08.00 WIB, the water had already overflowed, but only about 10 centimeters. We thought the water from Bogor arrived here at 17.00 WIB, it turned out that at 15.00 WIB it had overflowed," said Sanusi.

Even though it was flooded, until now no residents of Kebon Pala have fled to the evacuation posts that have been prepared by environmental administrators.

They only move the furniture that is downstairs to the second floor of the house. In addition, move the vehicle to an environmental road access in the RW 04 and RW 05 areas whose soil contours are higher so that it is not flooded.

"No one has fled yet, it is still safe if it is like this. It's normal, because it is normal to be affected by floods," he said.
