Pope Francis Asks Ukraine To Dare To Lift 'White Flag'

JAKARTA - Pope Francis urged Ukraine to dare to declare it like a 'white flag' to negotiate the end of the war with Russia.

The Ukraine-Russia war since Moscow's invasion has been going on for two years and has killed tens of thousands of people.

Quoting Reuters on Sunday, March 10, Pope Francis said it was an interview with Swiss television station RSI last month.

The interview was conducted before Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan offered to host a meeting of Ukraine-Russia to end the war.

Erdogan's offer took place when he was visited by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Istanbul, Turkey on Friday, March 8.

While in the meeting to end the war, Zelensky insisted Ukraine wanted peace, but would not give up its territory anywhere.

During the meeting, Zelensky also requested that Russian troops withdraw from all over Ukraine, including efforts to recover his country's borders.

On the one hand, Pope Francis' statement so far has not been responded to by Ukraine.

Previously, Pope Francis was asked for his response to a cross opinion so that Ukraine would surrender to Russia because it had not been able to expel the invading troops.

Those who are pro on this are said to be encouraging the strongest party in Ukraine to roll it out.

During the interview with the RSI television station, the interviewer used the term "white flag" when asking Pope Francis a question.

"It is a single interpretation, and it is true," Pope Francis said during the interview session.

The moment of the interview with Pope Francis will be broadcast on the RSI television station on March 20 as part of a new cultural program.
