Immigration Arrest Japanese Citizen Fugitive Police Case Fraud In Batam

BATAM - The Special Class I Immigration Office of TPI Batam, Riau Islands (Kepri) revealed that a Japanese citizen with the initials YY, who became a fugitive from the National Police's International Relations Division (Divhubinter), was arrested in the Batam City area.

The Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Riau Islands, I Nyoman Gede Surya Mataram, said that YY was declared a fugitive because he was involved in a fraud case in his home country.

In addition, he explained that YY had been in Indonesia since April 2, 2021, via Soekarno Hatta International Airport and was arrested on January 31, 2024 when he was about to sail from Batam to Malaysia.

"YY is the president of the Nishiyama Farm company in Akaiwa City. YY is suspected of committing fraud in Japan with an investment mode in the fruit sales business," Surya said in Batam, Wednesday, February 21, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said YY came to Indonesia using a tourist visit visa by traveling and moving around.

"The person concerned felt guilty in his country and he tried to escape, he got off in Jakarta flying here and there he arrived in Batam," he said.

As for the chronology of the arrests on January 31, 2024, personnel from the Barelang Police Satpolairud conducted patrols in the waters of Pulau Bulang, Batam City, and found a ship containing 7 people consisting of 2 men serving as tekong and crew members, 4 Indonesian citizens passengers, and a Japanese citizen passenger.

"After in-depth interrogation, it is suspected that the ship will send non-procedural Indonesian migrant workers and an Interpol fugitive to Malaysia," said Surya.
