WEST PAPUA DAYA - Sorong Police in Southwest Papua revealed 41 out of 730 polling stations (TPS) in Sorong City are categorized as vulnerable.

"A total of 41 polling stations are vulnerable, not because of potential conflicts, but vulnerable because they are far away. In general, all polling stations in Sorong City are still safe," said Sorong Police Chief Kombes Pol. Happy Perdana Yudianto in Sorong, Southwest Papua, Monday, February 5, as reported by Antara.

In 2019, he continued, there were several polling stations that were categorized as very vulnerable, but after being studied and analyzed, the Sorong City TPS did not enter into a very vulnerable condition in the 2024 election.

He said the Sorong Police had prepared 591 personnel to secure the voting process in the 2024 election in Sorong City.

According to him, this security commitment is an important part that the Sorong Police need to do as an effort to support and ensure that the voting process in the 2024 election takes place safely, orderly and peacefully.

"We have prepared 591 anggora personnel to maintain security in the 2024 election," he said.

He said that as many as 591 personnel consisted of 391 personnel to secure the voting situation at 730 polling stations, 100 personnel remained on standby at the Police Headquarters for handling the situation when the escalation increased, then 50 BKO personnel from the West Papua Police Mobile Brigade Unit and 50 Brimob personnel on standby.

"So on D-1, our colleagues have gone down and stayed in the village to secure letters and ballot boxes and on voting day, we will guard until the voting process is complete," he said.

In addition, he said, the Sorong Police will also deploy two-thirds of the personnel to carry out 24-hour patrols throughout the quiet period for three days.

Because, he said, learning from the 2019 election actually contained friction and then resulted in conflict occurring in a calm period, so it was rare to anticipate that it would still be carried out as an effort to minimize conflicts of interest.

"In my opinion, the calm day is actually very vulnerable for us, so we will still secure it by conducting patrols," he said.

The Sorong City KPU has set a permanent voter list (DPT) in the region in the 2024 election as many as 205,507 people consisting of 106,544 men and 98,963 women spread across 730 polling stations in 10 districts.
