Sleman Hit By Wind Rain, One Person Dies

Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds hit a number of areas in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, causing dozens of trees to fall, a number of houses were damaged and one person died as a result of being hit by a falling joglo building.

"In the incident of rain accompanied by strong winds this afternoon, one person died as a result of being crushed by the rubble of a joglo building that collapsed in Kalitirto, Berbah," said the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sleman Regency, Makwan, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, January 26.

According to him, the incident occurred at around 13.30 WIB, moderate to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds occurred in Sleman Regency, causing several trees to fall and houses damaged and damaged.

"Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds hit several kalinewon (districts) in the East Sleman region, namely Berbah, Prambanan and Kalasan," he said.

He said, in Kapanewon Berbah covering Perum Griya Darma Asri 1 Jebresan RT 7 RW 34 Kalitirto, a fallen tree hit the house, in Bedilan Kalitirto, the roof of one house flying, Karang, Kalitirto, a fallen tree hit the house.

Then in Kalitirto Berbah Cangakan, a 25 centimeter diameter teak tree fell closing the access road to the village, Teguhan Kalitirto, three fallen trees of the Mahoni type closed the main access of the hamlet.

"Furthermore, in Bedilan, Kalitirto, the roof of the asbestos and zinc flew and broke so that the house could not be inhabited, while taking refuge beside his parents' house," he said.

Makwan said the heavy rain and strong winds also caused a limasan joglo in the middle of a rice field in SumberKulon Kalitirto Hamlet to collapse.

"At the time of the incident there was one local resident who was taking shelter in a joglo so that he was hit and the victim died," he said.

Heavy rains and strong winds also hit Kapanewon Prambanan covering in Kalurahan Madurejo fetal in Mutihan Hamlet, Gembyangan Hamlet, and Totogan Hamlet which damaged a number of trees and damaged houses.

"Then in Kalurahan Bokoharjo, Prambanan in Jamusan Hamlet and in Kapanewon Kalasan in Kalurahan Tirtomartani covering in Dusun Dumber, Gendingsari Hamlet which also caused a number of trees to fall and houses damaged due to flying roofs," he said.
