ICW's Advice To The KPK In 2024: Prioritize Kolegial Collective To Pay Attention To The Quality Of Cases

JAKARTA - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) assesses that there are a number of things that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) needs to do in the new year. One of them is to ensure that the collegial collective principle runs and there is no longer a one man show.

This was conveyed by ICW researcher Dika Anandya who said 2024 should be a year to restore the level of public trust. Because, in 2023 there were many internal problems including the appointment of former KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri as a suspect until he was finally dismissed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

It is known that Firli was named a suspect in the alleged extortion or acceptance of gratuities from former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo while still in office. This case was handled by Polda Metro Jaya and he has undergone two examinations but has not been detained.

"First, the new chairman to replace Firli must be able to bring a good working climate, one of which is at the leadership level by prioritizing collegial collectives, not one man show that Firli has shown so far," Dika said in a written statement quoted on Tuesday, January 2.

Dika also said that the KPK must pay more attention to the quality of corruption cases handled. "Law enforcement does not only focus on the quantity of handling cases," he said.

Finally, the KPK was asked to be independent, especially before the political year. The handling of cases must be carried out implicitly.

"In 2024, the KPK must be able to be independent and implicit in handling cases because it is approaching the political year," said Dika.

"We believe that the flow will be even heavier with the issue of politicization, so the KPK must act independently like an ideal law enforcement agency," he concluded.
