JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Hendry Ch Bangun emphasized the organization's commitment to providing accurate information and establishing the PWI Anti-Hoax Task Force as a preventive measure. This task force was inaugurated on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, through online and offline events at the Central PWI Office.

"The launch of the Anti-Hoaks Task Force is part of a series of commemorations of National Press Day (HPN) and is a contribution from the Central PWI to fight false information or fake news that can harm the public," said Hendry Ch Bangun on Friday, December 29.

He explained that the formation of the Anti-Hoaks Task Force aims to provide correct, complete, and cultured information to the public. This is so that the public can quickly distinguish true information from those that are not, especially in the face of provocative and misleading information.

Hendry emphasized the need for the Anti-Hoax Task Force, especially ahead of the 2024 General Election and Presidential Election, where people are vulnerable to consuming false information. This task force has the task of monitoring all information or hoaxes, providing explanations, and presenting correct information to the public.

"The Central PWI Anti-Hoax Task Force will actively monitor false information and provide enlightenment to the public. This is a real step for PWI in providing accurate information and preventing the spread of fake news," he added.

The kick-off event or launch of the Anti-Hoaks Task Force on January 9, 2024 will present speakers from the National Police Headquarters, Academics Prof. Dr. Ahmad Mulyana M.Si, from Mercu Buana University, and is attended by 39 Chairmen of PWI Provinces throughout Indonesia. Students will also be invited as participants in anti-hoax discussions. With this step, the Central PWI hopes to create public awareness of the importance of obtaining correct and trustworthy information, especially in responding to political and social developments ahead of the 2024 HPN.
