BANDUNG - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Kalioni Machmudin revealed that his party had planned flyovers in West Java, especially in Bandung, to be closed throughout the night of the turn of the year 2023 to January 1, 2024.

This was done, said Bey, because when it dissolved in the joy of New Year's Eve, there was the potential for people to forget themselves and throw material from the flyover, and endanger motorists or other people below.

"Earlier I received information, in Bandung I asked the public to pay attention to the flyover. So like Pasupati, it will be closed on New Year's Eve. For security, sometimes people like to throw," said Bey at Gedung Sate Bandung, reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 27.

Bey said the provincial government would immediately instruct and coordinate with the Bandung City Government to socialize the closure of the flyover throughout New Year's Eve.

"Later we will coordinate with the city of Bandung to respond. Don't let the public (don't know). Don't be dangerous and cause new congestion," he said.

During the 2024 New Year holiday period, Bey said the West Java Provincial Government predicts a surge in visitors in the Pangandaran area.

This situation, he admitted, would be different in the New Year 2023 holiday period, where people tend to choose to vacation in the Puncak area, Bogor Regency.

"There has been an increase in tourists, both to Pangandaran. Christmas is not, but the new year has increased and last year in the Bogor area," he said.

With this prediction, Bey is optimistic that traffic will run safely even though traffic jams are predicted, considering that relevant policy makers such as the police and the Department of Transportation have prepared a number of strategies to mitigate dangerous things on the highway, including traffic jams.

"It's safe, this is a very high increase. Everything is situational," he said.

So far, Bey admitted that there has been an increase in community mobility in the Lembang area, West Bandung Regency to Subang Regency.

Therefore, he asked people who are on vacation to really ensure the physical readiness of the body and vehicle, in order to anticipate unexpected things while traveling.

"We received a report that the Lembang to Subang route could take up to 5-6 hours. This means that traffic jams cannot be avoided and we ask people who want to take a vacation, either using private or public vehicles, make sure they are healthy, including family members, the group because of traffic jams makes them tired. Then make sure the vehicle used is in a fit condition because if some traffic jams there are strikes and so on," he said.

In addition, Bey also asked tourists to continue to monitor weather forecasts, considering that during the rainy season, West Java often experiences extreme weather that can be dangerous.

"Then monitor the weather conditions to the BMKG, whether it will rain or not. Be careful extreme weather. Continue to follow the announcement or directions from the BMKG. On the road, follow from police officers," he said.
