AMBON - Agricultural Quarantine Station (SKP) Class I Ambon secured illegal dog meat packaged in styrofoam during Christmas and New Year's surveillance. The reason for the detention, he said, is that the absence of health guarantees from animal products from the origin area, the sender cannot show some official documents for animal product traffic. As well as owners are unable to bear the costs if they have to be rejected. This detention action is also inseparable from the collaboration of port, marine, and related agencies in the field. As is known, dog meat is not included in the category of food according to Law Number 18/2012 concerning food, because it does not come from livestock and forestry products. Furthermore, he said, the process of maintenance, transportation, and cutting dog meat for consumption has not yet been regulated until now, thus being a major question mark regarding the safety of dog meat products. He added, Indonesian quarantine has always been at the forefront of maintaining food security from all products of animal origin, before reaching the community in particular for Maluku communities.
