MEDAN - Haji Adam Malik Central General Hospital (RSUP) Medan, North Sumatra, provides intensive care for four COVID-19 patients in isolation rooms.

"There are four men who tested positive for COVID-19 aged 39 to 72 years," said Haji Adam Malik Hospital Legal and Public Relations Manager Rosario Dorothy Simanjuntak as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 20.

The four patients were hospitalized and tested positive from December 10, 2023, having mild to severe COVID-19.

"All patients have comorbidities (comorbidities)," said Rosario.

The public is encouraged to maintain health and wear masks if they are not healthy.

"If you are in a public place or public transportation that is full or congested, don't forget to wash your hands," said Rosario.

Adam Malik Hospital also continues to provide ready-to-prepare services, because this hospital is a reference for COVID-19, especially with severe symptoms experienced by patients.

"We are on standby starting from human resources (HR) to infrastructure," he said.

Previously, the Director of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases at the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) Imran Pambudi said the increase in cases of COVID-19 variant JN.1 was still under control considering that not many patients needed intensive care rooms or ICUs.

"There are still not many people being treated in the ICU, currently sick people still do not need an ICU, because to see how dangerous COVID-19 is, we see three aspects, starting with the number of cases, the number of people who need to be hospitalized, and the number of people who need to be admitted to the ICU," said Imran in a year-end talk with the Ministry of Health in Jakarta.

Even so, Imran emphasized that the government is still mitigating to anticipate the spike in cases due to JN.1.
