BPOM Supervises Food Ahead Of Christmas And New Year In North Sumatra, Initial Focus On Distributors

North Sumatra (North Sumatra) Center for Drug and Food Supervisory (BBPOM) supervises processed food at the distributor level to the market in Medan City ahead of Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024.

"In December and before this new year, we have a program, namely food intensification in various distributors to the market," said Head of North Sumatra BBPOM Martin Suhendri Sitepu, Apt, M Farm in Medan, Sunday, December 17, confiscated by Antara.

He said this surveillance program was carried out from the first to the second week, focusing on the upstream level of food circulation at the distributor, wholesale and large supermarket levels in Medan City.

"Meanwhile, in the third week, intensification is carried out at the level of circulation or in the market," he said.

In increasing the surveillance activity, Martin said his party found expired food at the food business.

"We found that something has expired, it has been separated and has been destroyed by its owner," said Martin.

BBPOM North Sumatra appealed to food and beverage business actors not to just expect profits, because the most important thing is to protect consumers with legal products and meet the requirements for health.

"We also urge the public ahead of Christmas and New Year's Eve to choose food products smartly," said Martin.

He specifically asked food or beverage parcel service providers so that the expiration date of the product will not only be until December 25, 2023, but at least must be until mid-January 2024.

"Because those who celebrate Christmas rarely open Christmas time, usually in the new year. For that, we hope that the expiration date will be at least until mid-January 2024," he said.
