The Mayor of Medan, North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution said that the Medan City Social Institutions that are being built are being prepared for the handling of people with social welfare problems (PMKS) and the rehabilitation of drug addicts.

"We are building a social institution in Medan Tuntungan. Later, we will use some of the buildings for the rehabilitation (of drug addicts). Please pray from all," said Bobby in Medan as reported by ANTARA, Monday, December 4.

The construction of this social institution, he continued, will be carried out in two stages starting in 2021 and is targeted for completion in December 2023.

The budget for the construction of the Medan City Social Institution this year uses the Medan City Budget 2023 amounting to IDR 30 billion.

"God willing, hopefully it can be finished on time," he said.

The mayor said that collaboration of all parties will be needed to overcome and deal with PMKS problems as well as drug addicts, including with academics in Medan City.

Later, PMKS who are accommodated in orphanages will be provided with various trainings so that they have the skills to change their lives for the better, as well as drug users.

His party appreciates the Hope Indonesia Foundation (YHI) for its contribution and concern in saving the younger generation from the dangers caused by drugs.

"Thank you to YHI for your contribution. Hopefully more and more parties will care to take part so that this problem can be resolved," said Bobby.

Medan DPRD member Johannes Haratiua Hutagalung supports the Medan City Government to immediately have a rehabilitation center to protect drug victims.

"This (panti for drug rehabilitation, ed) is necessary, and it is the government's responsibility to its citizens," he said.

He admitted that he was concerned about the rampant drug trafficking in the community in Medan City, which seemed increasingly unstoppable.

So far, drug rehabilitation sites, both in Medan City and surrounding areas, are only owned and managed by the private sector.

"With the rehabilitation place for drug addicts, parents can entrust their children to the orphanage to get guidance and as well as recovery," said Johannes.
