Acting Governor of West Java Beyxi Machmudin appealed to workers in his area to comply with the provisions regarding the district/city minimum wage (UMK) in 2024 following workers' dissatisfaction with the determination of the minimum wage.

"I hope, because it has been decided we obey it together and indeed today's result is what we can maximize. That has been a formulation and I think it is enough for us to determine the UMK today," said Bey at the Sate building in Bandung, reported by ANTARA Thursday, November 30.

"Hopefully the workers understand the decisions we make and maximize, and hopefully there will be no need to block the road," he said.

Masses of workers reject the determination of the 2024 UMK based on Government Regulation Number 51 of 2023 concerning Amendments to Government Regulation Number 36 of 2021 concerning Wages.

They conveyed their aspirations at Gedung Sate Bandung, then moved to Jalan dr.Djundjunan (Pasteur) and blocked the road, causing traffic jams.

Chairman of the DPD Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI) West Java Roy Jinto threatened to carry out a strike because he was not satisfied with the determination of the 2024 UMK.

He conveyed that the union proposed an increase in the district/city minimum wage by 7.25 percent by 2024.

"We have offered a solution, but the Acting Governor emphasized that we will use PP 51, so we consider that the West Java Government enforces the will to impoverish workers by using PP 51, which increases by only Rp. 13 thousand," he said.

"The union of workers is not responsible for anything that happens. We will prepare a strike (work)," he said after meeting with the Acting Governor at Gedung Sate.

KSPSI will convey the results of a meeting with the West Java Provincial Government regarding the determination of the UMK2024 to union members and laborers.

"Large on what kind of steps we want to take, we leave it to the sovereignty holders of the people and workers regarding this matter. Because the Acting Governor of West Java no longer wants to be invited to discuss," he said.
