JAKARTA - Indonesia is one of the countries mandated by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to initiate action on behalf of the OIC and the Arab League to stop the war in Gaza.

Apart from Indonesia, the OIC leaders through a resolution agreed upon after the extraordinary summit in Riyadh on Saturday (11/11), also mandated Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and Nigeria to help begin the political process to realize peace between Israel and Palestine.

"Paragraph 11 (in resolution) is an acknowledgment from the OIC on Indonesia's active activity or contribution which continues to try to resolve Palestinian problems, especially recently is the situation in Gaza," said Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, in a written statement released after attending the OKI Summit.

According to Retno, the resolution contained 31 strong and strong OIC messages to stop the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Gaza.

In addition to condemning the Israeli occupation of Gaza, the OIC leaders, including Indonesian President Joko Widodo, also urged the UN Security Council to act in generating resolutions so that atrocities could be ended immediately, aid could enter, and the importance of complying with international law.

The OIC also condemned the forced transfer of 1.5 million Palestinians from north to south of Gaza, which the 4th Geneva Convention said was a war crime.

"OKI juga mendesak DK PBB untuk mengeluarkan resolasi guna mengecam pemusahan rumah sakit di Gaza oleh Israel," ujar Retno.

The Extraordinary OIC Summit regarding the situation in Gaza was held in conjunction with the Arab League Summit.

The summit is considered very important to demonstrate the solidity of OIC countries and to find additional efforts so that Israeli atrocities against the Palestinians can be stopped immediately.
