Subang - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Subang Regency, West Java, is still extinguishing the fire on the land of the former Panembong Waste Disposal Site (TPA) which was hit by a fire since a month ago.

"Actually, the fire has subsided, but it has grown several times," said Head of BPBD Subang, Udin Jazudin, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 5.

He said on Monday (4/9) night the fire that burned the land of the former Panembong Spice TPA suddenly grew again.

As of Tuesday afternoon, he said, fires were still occurring at the former Panembong TPA.

His party could not confirm when the fire was completely extinguished. Because several times over the past month, he said, when it was extinguished, the fire appeared again when the wind was strong.

In extinguishing the fire, BPBD Subang was assisted by firefighters (damkar) and the TNI-Polri.

To deal with the fire that has grown again, he said, three fire engines were deployed plus water cars from the Subang Social Service and Regional Drinking Water Companies (PDAM).

The fire on the land of the former Panembong TPA has occurred since August 7, 2023. "So it's been almost a month," he said.

"We, together with the TNI/Polri, the Fire Service and other parties will continue to try to extinguish the fire," said Udin.

According to him, the land used for the burning Panembong TPA occurred on an area of 3.4 hectares, out of a total of 6 hectares of land.

He appealed to the public to be aware of the possibility of land and forest fires (karhutla) during the long dry season as a result of the El Nino phenomenon.

"We urge the public to be aware of land and forest fires, because the current condition is long dry," he said.
