BMKG Asks To Beware Of Rob Potential On The South Coast Of Bali Because Of The Full Moon Phenomenon

DENPASAR - Center for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) Region III Denpasar asked the public to be aware of the potential for coastal flooding or tidal flooding on the southern coast of Bali, which is estimated to be on August 31-3 September 2023 due to the natural phenomenon of the full moon.

"Be alert and prepared to anticipate the impact of the maximum tide of sea water," said Bali BMKG Data and Information Coordinator I Nyoman Gede Wiryajaya in Denpasar as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 30. However, the BMKG did not provide details on the maximum estimated sea level from the potential for flooding on the southern coast.

BMKG noted that there are seven areas on the southern coast that have the potential to experience tidal waves based on water level data monitoring and tidal predictions, namely Jembrana, Tabanan, Badung, Denpasar, Gianyar, Klungkung and Karangasem. There is only one area, namely the northern coast, namely in Buleleng Regency which is not expected to experience tidal waves.

Wiryajaya explained that the potential for coastal flooding is different in days and hours in each region.

As an illustration, the potential for sea wave heights in the tourist areas of Nusa Dua and Kuta in Badung Regency is estimated to reach up to two meters.

Meanwhile, in the Tanah Lot area, Tabanan Regency and in Sanur, Denpasar is estimated to be up to 1.25 meters.

Sementara itu, potensi ketinggian gelombang laut di Selat Bali dan Selat Lombok diperkirakan hingga dua meter dengan kecepatan angin diperkirakan hingga 35 kilometer per jam yang bergerak dari arah timur-tenggara.

BMKG recorded that in general the tidal wave had an impact on community activities around ports and coasts, such as loading and unloading activities at ports, activities in coastal settlements, as well as salt ponds and land fisheries activities.
