JAKARTA - Deputy Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Office, Purwosusilo, responded to the suggestion of members of the DKI Jakarta DPRD regarding the elimination of the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) program if it was still not on target.

This proposal was made by the chairman of the Golkar faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Basri Baco. According to Baco, if the KJP continues not to be on target, it is better for the DKI Provincial Government to divert it by free private schools.

According to Purwosusilo, the DKI Provincial Government must conduct a thorough study regarding the evaluation of the implementation of the distribution of education assistance, before changing its policies.

"He has an opinion, it doesn't matter. But there must be a lot of studies carried out to determine whether it is enough for free schools, but there is no KJP. This needs a study, it needs to see directly to the community," Purwosusilo told reporters, Wednesday, August 9.

Moreover, according to Purwosusilo, not all students whose families are able to finance education operations even though they are not charged with tuition fees every month. There are still students in public schools who are free but still need educational assistance.

"There are people who can't go to school because even though the school doesn't pay, they can't afford it for operations, for transportation, to buy books," he said.

Thus, if KJP recipients are still found who are not on target, Purwosusilo admitted that his party continued to verify the findings, until the act of withdrawing the KJP for the person concerned.

"That's why we keep checking, really. If it is proven that there are prohibitions that are violated, then we will not give them," he said.

Previously, Basri Baco admitted that he still received complaints from underprivileged families whose not a single child was the recipient of the KJP. Meanwhile, there are other families whose all children received the education assistance.

"Fakta di lapangan ada satu keluarga 4 anaknya dapat dan ada keluarga yang satu pun tidak dapat. Ini tidak adil," kata Baco dalam raperda bertemuan hasil pembahasan Raperda tentang P2APBD Tahun Anggaran 2023.

If the implementation of the distribution of KJP is still not on target, Baco proposes that the DKI Provincial Government remove the KJP program, then replace it with a free school, especially the private sector in certain categories.

Given, there are still many cases of underprivileged students receiving education in private schools. Then, when graduating, he could not take his diploma at school because he had not paid his tuition fees.

"If only public schools are free, private schools are free, especially C and D, then no more diplomas will be withheld. There are no more complaints every year, no more children will drop out of school. We can make this happen," said Basri.
