KETAPANG Presidential Chief of Staff, Moeldoko made a working visit to the rescue and conservation center of the Indonesian Rehabilitation Natural Initiation Foundation (YIARi), in Ketapang, West Kalimantan, Friday, July 21.

The group of mothers themselves are members of The Power of Mama', a community that cares about the environment, under the guidance of YIARi. Formed on June 6, 2022, the community consisting of women across generations carried out a number of environmental activities. One of them is protecting the forest from the risk of fire.

"We have to learn from Ketapang. Another place to burn forests is here on standby to face fires. Moreover, these are mothers. I emphasize, the fire unit occupies an honorable place," said Moeldoko.

During his visit to YIARi, Moeldoko went around looking closer to the place and the process of rehabilitating orangutans. He visited one by one the large and strong ape cages, while listening to explanations about the conservation stages of one of the YIARi members.

He said the orangutan conservation process was very effective. Because it does not only focus on rescue, rehabilitation, and release. However, it also provides education and empowerment to the community to maintain forest safety.

"What makes me amazed is that there are many young people here who want to give up their lives to protect orangutans and forest areas," he said.

"I respect all of you, for working outside the call of duty," added Moeldoko.

Before ending his working visit, the 2013-2015 TNI Commander also planted trees, and symbolically released four orangutans back into natural habitats. Namely, in Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park (TNBBBR).

"What is programmed by YIARi, of course, we will continue to encourage it to be successful. Let's move together to save Kalimantan orangutans," said Moeldoko.

Meanwhile, YIARi Secretary, Marius Marcellus TJ, expressed his appreciation for Moeldoko's visit. He considered that the visit of the number one person at the Presidential Staff Office gave YIARi a moral injection to continue to be committed to maintaining the survival of orangutans.

"In addition to conservation, we have also been conducting education and assistance to the community for years. Please support you," said Marius.

As is known, the Indonesian Rehabilitation Nature Initiative Foundation (YIARi), an organization engaged in the preservation of Indonesian primates, is based on rescue efforts, recovery, release, and post-releasing monitoring.

In addition to the conservation of Kukang and Orangutan, YIARi also conducts education and community empowerment around forest areas.
