JAKARTA - Member of the House of Representatives from the PDI-P (PDIP) faction, Arteria Dahlan, said that PDIP respects the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) against the implementation of a closed proportional system or party voting in the 2024 General Election.

"In principle, we respect the Constitutional Court's decision. This must be part of legal civilization and enrichment and strengthening democracy. PDIP is an adult party, we without the Constitutional Court's decision long ago are ready with all electoral systems," Arteria told reporters at the Constitutional Court Building (MK), Jakarta, Thursday, June 15, which was confiscated by Antara. He hopes that with the rejection of the application for judicial review of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning the Election, the sovereignty of the people in the country will strengthen.

On the same occasion, Arteria also appreciated the Constitutional Court's decision on maintaining an open proportional system or voting for legislative candidates in the 2024 General Election. According to him, the decision is a phenomenal decision. "The Constitutional Court's decision is extraordinary, so phenomenal, we must admit that the atmosphere is so comprehensive and is part of enrichment in the context of legal life, especially state life and democracy," he said.

Previously, the panel of judges at the Constitutional Court had stated that they rejected the petitioners' petition regarding the judicial review of Article 168 paragraph (2) of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections regarding an open proportional system registered with case registration number 114/PUU-XX/2022 on November 14, 2022. Thus, the open proportional electoral system remains valid in the 2024 General Election. "Rejecting the petitioners' requests in its entirety," said Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman when reading the verdict at the Constitutional Court building, Central Jakarta, Thursday, June 15. The PDIP is the only faction that wants a closed proportional election system.
