Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar

Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar hopes that the Golkar Party (Golkar) can immediately join the Greater Indonesia Awakening Coalition (KKIR) with the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra).

Muhaimin said that the closeness of the Golkar Party to the Greater Indonesia Coalition is expected to be implemented in the near future, but he has not been able to confirm when the party bearing the banyan symbol will join.

"We hope that Golkar can become the three pillars of the coalition with Gerindra and PKB. But when it will be, we will wait," said Cak Imin, his nickname, quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, May 21.

Cak Imin explained that until now PKB is still consistent and will cooperate with the Gerindra Party. The coalition, which was built by the two parties, was declared solid and was waiting for momentum to welcome the democratic party in 2024.

He will also soon meet with Gerindra Party Chair Prabowo Subianto at an event in Jombang, East Java. He is also waiting for the latest information regarding a meeting between Prabowo Subianto and former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

"Tonight I was with Pak Prabowo in Jombang. I will meet the kyai throughout East Java, later I will know the progress (the results of the meeting with SBY)," he said.

Asked about the meeting between Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Prabowo Subianto, Cak Imin admitted that he had not received direct information regarding the meeting but still felt happy that there was support for Prabowo Subianto.

"I haven't heard about it, but Mas Gibran is still not old enough (to become a vice presidential candidate). However, we are happy that Pak Prabowo has received support from volunteers," he said.

Based on Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections (UU Pemilu), pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates are proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in the election who meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the total seats in the DPR or obtaining 25 percent of valid votes nationally in the previous election for members of the DPR.

Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament, so that the pairs of presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election must have at least 115 seats in the DPR RI. It is also possible that the candidate pairs can be promoted by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the 2019 Election with a total valid vote acquisition of at least 34,992,703 votes.
