It Was Delayed, Tesla Finally Started Producing Electric Trucks

JAKARTA - The Tesla Automotive Factory has designed an electric truck. Even the transport vehicle is currently in the final stages of starting serial production of the “Tesla Semi”, after several delays to reach the finish line.

The report in late March also claimed that Tesla was building a new production line for the Semi near its Nevada Gigafactory plant. This report is supported by members of the Tesla community who are reportedly familiar with the matter. However, rumors also surfaced that the Nevada line was only for pilot production, and mass production of the Semi would take place later at the Texas Gigafactory instead.

Meanwhile, news about the Tesla Semi was muted by the departure of former Trucking President Jerome Guillen. This speculation suggests that the Tesla Semi program is going well despite the executive's absence.

This seems to be supported by a recent report from the EV Electrek blog, which states that the vehicle drive axle production line is now ready. Citing sources who are reported to be aware of the matter, the publication notes that the Tesla Semi's general assembly line is already in the final stages of debugging.

Tesla presented a prototype of this truck in 2017 and later announced that there would be two versions of the truck. Both will have the capacity to load 36 tonnes of payload with different autonomous steering systems. The first truck is capable of traveling 480 km and the second is estimated to be able to move as far as 800 km.

The new models are expected to be priced between $150,000 and $180,000. Currently, several companies looking to electrify their routes have set aside budgets for the trucks needed to start their deliveries.
