JAKARTA - Nvidia Corp and MediaTek Inc announced a collaboration on Monday, May 29, to jointly develop advanced vehicle infotainment system technologies.

Going forward, in an agreement announced at the Computax technology trade show in Taipei, the technology is capable of streaming videos, games, and interacting with other drivers using artificial intelligence.

The process itself, explained that MediaTek will integrate the Nvidia graphics processing unit chipset and Nvidia software into the system-on-chip it provides to automakers for infotainment display.

According to the company, the MediaTek system that uses Nvidia software will be compatible with the Nvidia technology-based auto-driven system. The dashboard display will be able to display the environment around the vehicle, while the camera will monitor the driver.

"In the automotive industry, strong companies are needed that can cooperate with the industry for decades simultaneously," Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang said at a news conference in Taipei.

He said, the quality, strength, and position of the two companies can provide their partners in the automotive industry to continue to develop this business and chip from cooperation can later be used in each car segment.

As is known, so far Nvidia has focused on premium automotive brands such as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar Land Rover, while MediaTek, which is engaged in the Android smartphone chip sector, sells Dimensity Auto technology to the bulk market vehicle line at a more affordable price and has advantages in cellular connectivity and Android systems.

This collaboration responds to the development of the vehicle entertainment system which is increasingly complex today with the need for additional features such as games, artificial intelligence for sound-activated features, driver monitoring systems, and views related to automatic steering.

This partnership with MediaTek provides Nvidia with wider access to the system-on-chip infotainment market worth $12 billion.

Meanwhile, MediaTek's Chief Executive Officer, Rick Tsai, revealed that the first product in this collaboration is planned to be launched by the end of 2025. However, the company does not identify future automotive customers who will use this technology.

On the other hand, Qualcomm, MediaTek's main competitor in the smartphone market, has also approached automakers in partnership with Salesforce to develop a new connected vehicle platform.
