SEMARANG - The Semarang City Government, Central Java, will provide a COVID-19 vaccination service at the village level. The aim is to accelerate efforts to increase vaccination coverage and realize communal immunity.

"This effort is to support the implementation of vaccinations at the puskesmas level, which are still small in number," said Semarang Mayor Hendrar Prihadi (Hendi) as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, July 21.

Hendi said that in the early stages, COVID-19 vaccination services would be provided in four sub-districts in Banyumanik District.

The Banyumanik sub-district was chosen as the initial target for the implementation of the vaccination program at the village level because cases of COVID-19 transmission in the area were still high.

The mayor said, in the early stages of the vaccination service, it is targeted to reach 100 people every hour.

"The number can still increase or decrease, depending on the condition of the queue in the field," he said.

Hendi said that after the implementation of the COVID-19 vaccination in four sub-districts in Banyumanik District, the city government would provide similar services in four other sub-districts.

According to him, until today the COVID-19 vaccination has been carried out on 665 thousand residents of Semarang City.

The COVID-19 vaccination program is still ongoing, and its target has been extended to students aged 12 to 17.
