JAKARTA - The wife of the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Mirdiyanti named two Komodo dragons who had just joined Ragunan Wildlife Park, South Jakarta, under the names Polita (beta) and Juma (jantan).
"The level of the two Komodo dragons is PJ, namely Polita and Juma. Polita means smart and Juma is Berkah Friday," said Mirdiyanti when met in Jakarta, Antara, Friday, May 26.
Mirdiyanti hopes that the two names in the four-year-old Komodo dragon can bring blessings to the Ragunan Wildlife Park.
He also appreciated the Ragunan Wildlife Park, which always takes care of the zoo like a place that must be kept clean.
Head of the Ragunan Wildlife Park Management Unit, Endah Rumiyati, added that the arrival of the Komodo dragon was the result of cooperation between the Ragunan Wildlife Park and Taman Safari Indonesia conservation institutions.
According to Endah, after going through a sufficient adaptation period, the Komodo dragon was comfortable at home and began to look active around to get to know its territory.
The two Komodo dragons were born on Thursday (21/3/2019) at Taman Safari Indonesia (TSI) so that currently the Komodo dragon is about four years old.
"For that age, Komodo dragons are still young and they will be ready to reproduce at the age of five," said Endah.
He hopes that this activity will continue to be carried out routinely every year and hopes that the Komodo dragon can become one of the favorite animals for visitors and can breed in the Ragunan Wildlife Park.
"We are also actively providing compensation for other Individual Service Providers (PJLP) by providing a savings account of IDR 500 thousand," said Endah.
Head of the DKI Jakarta City Parks and Forest Service (Distamhut) Bayu Meghantara hopes that this new animal can increase the number of visitors.
"God willing, we will get a new lion in collaboration with conservation in Garut. Hopefully this will be an alternative for the people of DKI Jakarta to take a vacation and educate flora-fauna," said Bayu.
Currently, the Ragunan Wildlife Park is inhabited by 2,275 animals and over 20.000 trees are overgrown.
