JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono targets the Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan (Cisumdawu) Toll Road to fully operate in June this year.

"The Cisumdawu Toll Road is a national strategic project that has been eagerly awaited by the community. It will be operationalized immediately while prioritizing quality, safety, and aesthetics. The Cisumdawu Toll Road is also to support the operation of Kertajati Airport," Basuki said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 22.

Basuki instructed the completion of the construction of the Cisumdawu Toll Road Section 4 - Section 6 (Cimalaka - Dawuan) along 29.3 kilometers (km) in early June 2023, so that it can operate entirely along 62 km. Previously, during the 2023 Eid homecoming, Section 4-6 of the Cisumdawu Toll Road had been opened functionally.

Currently on the Cisumdawu Toll Road, Section 1 Cileunyi - Pamulihan (11.45 km) has been operating since January 2022. Followed by Section 2 Pamulihan - Sumedang (17.05 Km) and Section 3 Sumedang - Cimalaka (4.05 Km) which operates since December 2022 to support smooth traffic during Christmas and New Year 2022/2023.

The Cisumdawu Toll Road consists of 6 sections built with a Government and Business Entity Cooperation (PPP) scheme with construction costs of IDR 5.5 trillion. Of the six sections, Sections 1 and 2 were carried out by the Government as part of theivity gap fund (VGF) to increase the feasibility of the toll investment. Meanwhile, Section 3-6 was carried out by the Toll Road Business Entity of PT CKJT.

Head of the Center for the Implementation of the DKI Jakarta-West Java National Road, Brawijaya, said that there was a special technology applied in the construction of the Cisumdawu Toll Road, namely EPS geofoam technology which was applied to the construction of Section 5A in Cipamekar Village, Conggeang District, Sumedang Regency.

"In Section 5A, there is an unstable and watery part of the soil so that it cannot be handled under ordinary means or construction. This is the first to be done on a mass scale with a volume of almost 40 thousand m3. This light hoarding will reduce the risk of landslides," said Brawijaya.

Geofoam EPS is a light-weighted material that is commonly applied abroad, especially to deal with unstable soil layers.
