Brisbane Appointed To Host 2032 Olympics: NOC Chair: Doesn't Make Indonesia Resign, Anything Can Happen

JAKARTA - The President of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) Raja Sapta Oktohari said that anything could happen even though Brisbane was set to host the 2032 Olympics. According to him, the implementation time was still quite long.

Okto, Raja Sapta's nickname, said that 2032 still has 11 years left. All possibilities, he added, can still happen and his side is ready for it.

"It's like a saying that you hold the coals of fire, let them become charcoal. That is, do everything with patience. The decision (Brisbane) does not make us withdraw (to host the Olympics)," Okto said in Tokyo in an official statement received by the editors.

Brisbane was appointed to host the 2032 Olympics through a vote by the IOC Members at the IOC Session in Japan, yesterday afternoon. Prior to being brought to the IOC meeting, the Queensland capital was determined to be the only candidate with targeted dialogue status.

For information, bidding for the 2032 Olympics uses a new format. Countries that are interested in becoming the organizer of the world's largest four-year sporting event must go through a number of stages, Interested Party, Continuous Dialogue, Targeted Dialogue which then becomes the Preferred Host.

The Future Host Commission makes the time to apply for legal documentation an important indicator in determining the stage. It should be noted that Brisbane has started preparing to host the 2032 Olympics since 2015. Meanwhile, Indonesia started after successfully organizing the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games and the Jakarta Asian Para Games.

“Indonesia has a Continuous Dialogue status, and only one Targeted Dialogue has been chosen by the Future Host Commission, namely Brisbane. We will not back down and want to keep fighting to host the Olympics by being the only Targeted Dialogue for the 2036 Olympics," said Okto.

At a press conference last July, IOC President Thomas Bach explained that a country candidate who is currently undergoing the bidding process has the potential to take part in continuing the process to host 2036 or 2040.
