BNPB Asks Residents Of The Following Areas To Beware Of Today's Floods
"The BNPB's Directorate of Early Warning has identified a number of areas with flood 'alert' status in the administrative areas of districts and cities to sub-districts," said Abdul Muhari in his statement, Monday, July 19.
The areas with "alert" status are Bogor, Ciamis, Cianjur, Tasikmalaya, Bogor City, and Pangandaran Regencies in West Java Province. Furthermore, Cilacap and Banyumas in Central Java Province and Donggala in Central Sulawesi, are at the same status.
"A number of these areas include areas with the highest historical flood records based on the Indonesian Disaster Data and Information (DIBI)," said Abdul Muhari.
BNPB asks local governments that have been identified to take anticipatory and preparedness steps.
First, monitor the current conditions in the field and disseminate flood warning information such as rainfall and water level and potential affected areas.
Second, coordination with relevant stakeholders in preparing disaster preparedness teams and resources. Third, identify refugee camps including evacuation infrastructure according to health protocols.

"In addition, BNPB also asks people who live in areas with the potential for flooding to take anticipatory and preparedness steps. These steps are carried out at the family and community level," he said.
The following are BNPB recommendations for steps that can be prepared in the community:
1. Prepare the disaster preparedness team, such as monitoring the current conditions in the field, coordinating with village officials, and preparing for evacuation.
2. Store important items in a safe place in the house.
3. Limiting activities outside the home.
4. If you are outside the house, avoid large trees, billboards, and drains or culverts.
5. Prepare a standby bag that can be filled with food, drinks, medicine, money, clothes, valuable documents, and other needed items, such as spare medical masks, hand-sanitizer.
6. Continue to do the 3M, namely wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap and running water.
