Ministry Of Industry Releases 1,814 Local Production Hybrid Cars
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) released 1,733 Yaris Cross type Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) ICE and 81 Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) to be exported to various parts of the world, in Karawang, West Java, on Tuesday, June 13.
"Through the Yaris Cross electrification vehicle investment which reached IDR 2.5 trillion, we hope that the second local production electrification model of PT. TMMIN will achieve success as Kijang Innova Zenix, both for domestic consumers and the export market," said Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in a written statement, quoted Wednesday, June 14.
Agus said that the production of Yaris Cross is part of the PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) program to support government programs in reducing emissions by providing more choices of electrification models and fuel-efficient vehicles for various layers of consumers.
"It is also hoped that the number of Yaris Cross export units will continue to increase from year to year, so that they can penetrate the Australian market," he said.
In addition to contributing to the export market, the Minister of Industry also appreciated TMMIN, which already has a local purchase rate of use, reaching 80 percent, involving a total of 116 local suppliers, with 11 suppliers of which are new suppliers.
Minister of Industry Agus added that his party is trying to show the ability of the industrial sector to create products for a large context called green mobility. This is supported by Indonesia which has a lot of critical minerals which are the raw materials for electric vehicle (EV) batteries.
"With industries that continue to innovate, consumers also benefit from the transition to green mobility," he said.
To date, the production capacity of TMMIN is known to reach 320 thousand units per year, as well as 440,000 units of engines and parts produced at four factories in Karawang and Sunter.
The number of exports in the January-April 2023 period reached 40,754 units Completely Built Up (CBU) with cumulative total exports until 2023 reaching more than two million CBU units to more than 100 countries, covering Middle East, Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, Latin America, Oceania, and Australia.
"So, it can be concluded that the coaching of the automotive sector in terms of export performance in the form of CBU has been running in the right direction," he said.
Therefore, the Government of Indonesia appreciates PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) which for more than 50 years has been active, contributing, and growing and developing with the people of Indonesia.

"It is hoped that Toyota can adjust the types of vehicles produced in Indonesia to be exported to the Australian market for SUVs and sedans," he said.
Meanwhile, TMMIN President Director Warih Andang Tjahjono said that the production of Yaris Cross is part of Toyota Indonesia's commitment to support government programs in reducing emissions by providing more choices of electrification models and fuel-efficient vehicles for various layers of consumers.
"Yes, the Indonesian-made Cross with local content is 80 percent, both gasoline and HEV versions are also aimed at export markets to countries in Latin America and Asia, so we hope to also contribute economically to the Indonesian nation," he added.
