Accompanying Jokowi Kunker To Malaysia, Minister Of Manpower Ida: Discuss PMI Protection
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) Prime Minister (PM) of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim at the official residence of PM Malaysia, Seri Perdana, Putrajaya.
The meeting of the two neighboring leaders discussed the protection of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI).
The Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah participated in accompanying Jokowi during the visit.
He said the governments of Indonesia and Malaysia had put forward a bilateral agreement in the Memorandum of Mutual Understanding on the placement and protection of PMI in the domestic sector in Malaysia (MSP PMID).
Ida said, since the signing of the MSP witnessed by Joko Widodo and Anwar Ibrahim, on April 1, 2022, the integration of the One Channel System (OCS) continues to be carried out between the Indonesian representative system in Malaysia (SiPermit) and the Malaysian government system.
"The integration of this system aims to realize safe, fast and transparent placement governance and is still ongoing with the Malaysian Government," he said in an official statement, Thursday, June 8.
In this meeting, Jokowi really appreciated Anwar Ibrahim's commitment to strengthening the protection of PMI and also fair law enforcement for PMIs.
"Pak Anwar and I agreed to form a special bilateral mechanism to solve the PMI problem," said Jokowi.
Jokowi also encouraged the Community Learning Center on the Peninsula to be realized immediately, and also Indonesian citizens in the Immigration Depot could also be repatriated immediately.
"As well as one channel system must be optimized," he said.
In addition to the PMI problem, Jokowi and Anwar Ibrahim also discussed the process of negotiating territorial sea boundaries which were successfully resolved after almost 18 years.
"I welcome the completion of negotiations on territorial sea boundaries in the Sulawesi Sea and the southern part of the Malacca Strait after 18 years of negotiation, 18 years can be completed, thank God thanks to Dato' Anwar Ibrahim series," he said.

Jokowi also hopes that the other border negotiations can be completed in the near future, including the border in Sebatik and Sinapad After.
In addition, Jokowi also welcomed the completion of a number of memorandums of understanding (MoU) between the two countries.
Among them are related to cross-border agreements or border crossing agreements, border trading agreements, halal certification, and investment promotion cooperation.
