Number Of Covid-19 Cases Rises, People Are Asked To Stay Alert Even Though WHO Revokes Pandemic Status

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia Lestari Moerdijat reminded the public, especially vulnerable groups, to remain vigilant even though the emergency status of the COVID-19 pandemic has been declared over. "The latest data mentions an increase in cases in vulnerable groups. But we must not be afraid, let's take care of ourselves, because after all, the pandemic will forever be on earth," Lestari said at the Ethnic Certificate Ceremony, quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, May 7.Lestari also appealed to people who feel that they belong to vulnerable groups, especially those with congenital diseases (comorbids) to further increase their vigilance and health care. "Those who feel vulnerable groups should increase their vigilance, and for others let's take care of each other," he said. He said that the pandemic will continue to exist on earth, but with the advancement of knowledge, of course these diseases can be resolved well. According to Lestari, based on records from time to time, various kinds of pandemics have hit the earth. The flu was initially also a pandemic, but with the advancement of knowledge, he said, has now been considered a common disease, as well as COVID-19 which has been passed for three years, so that the community is getting used to it. He also reminded the public to be grateful for having passed a pandemic that at the beginning was quite heavy. "In the early days we were still dark, we don't know much information, and don't know what we are dealing with, at this time we have missed, so we should be grateful," he said.

Previously, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Friday that COVID-19 was no longer a global health emergency. The decision was announced by WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus based on recommendations from the WHO Emergency Committee who had met for the 15th time to assess the public health emergency status of international concern.
