Not Rejecting Takbiran, Mayor Eri Explains The Prohibition Of Crowded Mobile Takbir

JAKARTA - Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi ensured that there was no prohibition for residents to hold takbiran to welcome Eid al-Fitr this year.

"In the SE (Circular) it states that there should be no traveling takbir, it does not mean prohibiting takbiran, but keeping an accident from happening, usually a group (circular takbir) falls," said Eri Cahyadi in a written statement in Surabaya, Wednesday, April 19, as reported by Antara.

That's why Mayor Eri appealed to the public to avoid takbiran activities carried out by motorbikes traveling around the City of Heroes. This step, he continued, is expected to prevent traffic accidents.

The appeal is stated in the SE Mayor of Surabaya Number: 000.1.10 /8947 / 436.8.6 / 2023 concerning Increasing Security Maintenance, Peace and Order of the People of Surabaya City ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1444 H / 2023 M and Libur Panjang.

According to him, activities that have more harm or no benefits should be more avoided, such as carrying out takbiran in groups using motorbikes around the city of Surabaya.

"If there is more harm, never do it, if there are more blessings, do it. If takbir is echoed in each prayer room, mosque, how beautiful the sound of takbir resonates in Surabaya," said Cak Eri, the mayor of Surabaya's nickname.

For this reason, Cak Eri hopes that residents do not carry out takbiran by motorbikes traveling around the city of Surabaya. According to him, it would be nice if residents carried out takbiran in prayer rooms, mosques or their respective villages.

"So we don't take takbiran around with motorbikes. Indeed, we can take takbir around conveying Eid al-Fitr, but moving in their respective areas not to other areas," he said.
