Already Shown In Cinemas, KPop Demon Hunters Still Doesn't Meet BAFTA Awards Requirements

JAKARTA - The KPop Demon Hunters film attempt to dominate international awards seems not always smooth. Although this film qualifies for Oscars, this film does not qualify for the BAFTA Awards which are British awards.

The requirement made by the award committee is showing in theaters before it airs on Netflix. The film KPop Demon Hunters was released on Netflix before showing in theaters with a karaoke version.

In the reverse release format, the film still meets the requirements to be presented at the United States award. However, that requirement does not meet the requirements in the UK.

Quoting Deadline, Netflix tried to make an exception by submitting a film after showing it in theaters in English theaters on August 23 and 24.

Even so, BAFTA stated that the film requirement to enter was to be released first through a cinema. This requirement can be granted an exception if this film is shown to be distributed on a different route, for example, a limited film event.

The BAFTA film committee rejected the submission because the release was not appropriate because the release in theaters had to take up to 10 days.

Apart from failing to enter BAFTA, this film is the most watched film on Netflix with 541 million views. The songs in this film get five Grammy nominations.

Global success was also obtained until Netflix collaborated with toy companies Mattel and Hasbro to design toy licenses.

On the other hand, Netflix and Sony are planning a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters for release in 2029. It is not yet known if the sequel will hit theaters first.
