Rinjani Spreads: Fires Scorch Mount Vegetation Up To 10 Hectares

The Gunung Rinjani National Park Center (TNGR) stated that the land fire that occurred in the Gelogor Paok area, Sembalun Lawang Village, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), had scorched about 10 hectares of land.

"The fire that occurred was a surface fire, which burned bushes, grass, perdu, and dried leaves to reach an area of 10 hectares," said Head of the TNGR NTB Yarman Hall in a written statement received in Mataram, Antara, Friday, October 17.

The fire incident occurred last Thursday at around 15:45 WITA. Officers at the Sembalun Resort received reports from the community regarding forest fires in the Rinjani National Park Management Section (SPTN) II area.

"After remote monitoring, it is true that there are hotspots and officers immediately coordinate with the Koramil, Polsek, and Pos Damkarmat Sembalun," he said.

Yarman explained that the vegetation that caught fire at the location included a tubbakkan tree, mountain spruce, saropan, and acacia debris. Strong wind conditions and steep terrain make the fire spread quickly.

After receiving the report, the joint team consisting of 20 personnel from TNGR, Koramil, Polsek, Damkarmat Post, Fire Care Community (MPA), Police Partner Society (MMP), and students immediately headed to the location around 18.00 WITA.

The team brought outage equipment such as fire poison, back pumps, machetes, hoes, shovels, and water tankers belonging to the Damkarmat Post, Sembalun District.

"Ptrol efforts have been carried out intensively since the night and the fire has been controlled and extinguished," said Yarman.

As of Friday morning, officers confirmed that there were no more smoke or hotspots monitored at the location. The team will continue to mock up or follow-up patrols to ensure all hotspots are completely extinguished.
