JAKARTA - Meta is re-developing a new feature for WhatsApp on the iPhone. This time, the popular messaging app introduced a built-in call dialer, which allows users to make direct calls to numbers that are not on their contact list.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS presents a diameter call feature whose design is similar to the iPhone's built-in phone diameter. Users simply type the phone number in the "Calls" tab over the + button. If the number is registered on WhatsApp, users can immediately make voice or video calls.
This feature aims to simplify and speed up calls to people or businesses without the need to add a number to the contact list first. This move brings WhatsApp closer to being a full replacement for Apple's built-in phone app.
iOS 18.2, which was just released this week, allows users to choose third-party applications as defaults for calls and messages. While currently no application supports the feature, it is possible that WhatsApp will add it soon, especially with the presence of this new diameter feature.
