JAKARTA Samsung Electronics announced a major step in developing the Exynos 2500 chipset, which was built using 3nm advanced processes. After facing the initial challenge in stabilizing production levels, Samsung is now ready to include the chipset in its premium foldable phone line, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, and possibly also the Galaxy Z Flip FE.

Although the Exynos 2500 shows great potential, this chipset will not be used in the upcoming Galaxy S25 flagship series. Instead, Samsung chose to stick with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite on its flagship line in order to maintain high performance standards.

According to a report from Chosun Ilbo, the main reason behind this decision is the existence of a performance gap between the Exynos 2500 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Therefore, Samsung decided to take advantage of the chipset on the Galaxy Z Flip line, which previously always used Snapdragon processors.

This move is not only a strategy to strengthen Samsung's internal processor business, but also opens up opportunities to offer more affordable starting prices for foldable phones. With more competitive prices, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Flip FE are expected to attract more consumers to the foldable phone market.

The development of the Exynos 2500 previously faced low yield rate constraints. However, internal tensions between the Foundry division and the Samsung LSI System have now been resolved, allowing for stable mass production from 2025.

An unnamed senior Samsung official stated, "The 3nm second-generation GAA process has passed a major challenge, and we are now ready to start mass production. Although limited supply prevents us from embedding the Exynos 2500 on the Galaxy S25, the premium Z Flip model will fully exploit this chipset capability."

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 which is planned to be released in the third quarter of 2025 will present a slimmer design with a larger screen. In addition, the Galaxy Z Flip FE will offer more affordable options without compromising performance, thus expanding the appeal of folding phones to a wider market.

Meanwhile, Samsung will launch the Galaxy S25 in January, which will continue to rely on Snapdragon to maintain its best performance.

Samsung's move to embed Exynos 2500 on the Galaxy Z Flip line marks a new era for its internal processors, which are expected to be able to compete better in the future.
