JAKARTA EU Industry Head Thierry Breton urged YouTube and TikTok to immediately release information about their way of protecting children from harmful content.

The request comes on Wednesday, November 8. However, the European Commission only added the day after that that the two companies were given a deadline of up to November 30.

From a Reuters report, the European Commission wants to know the various steps that YouTube and TikTok have taken. The executive body will see if the two companies are serious about protecting children on their platforms.

In accordance with the Digital Service Act (DSA) which has been in effect since last August, all social media need to keep their applications safe from illegal and harmful content. Therefore, YouTube and TikTok were asked to immediately detail their actions.

Previously, TikTok had faced the European Commission. In a meeting held on November 7, TikTok's Chief Executive, Shou Chew met with the Vice President of the European Commission, Vera Jourova.

Similar to Breton's request this time, TikTok was also asked to detail their way of addressing disinformation issues as well as the spread of illegal content and violence on their platforms.

The European Commission welcomes TikTok's efforts, but the video platform is urged to further increase its efforts. The reason is, disinformation on TikTok continues to increase even though the company has tried to overcome it.
