JAKARTA - Discord is trying to increase security for its users by using temporary file links. This new policy will be applied to all users by the end of the year.

To Bleeping computer, Discord said that this link system switch was intentionally done to block cybercrime with Content Delivery Networks (CDN) via hosting and malware.

“In particular, this will help our security team limit access to flagged content and generally reduce the amount of malware distributed using our CDN,” the Discord team was quoted as saying by VOI.

Discord claims that this system change will not have a special impact on all its users, especially those who like to share content via the Discord Client.

However, this change will make things difficult for Discord users who frequently host their files. The reason is, the link will continue to change automatically according to the time that Discord has determined.

According to Discord's explanation, all file links uploaded to the server will expire within 24 hours. This update comes after Discord made changes to its file hosting system that they described as enforcing authentication.

For your information, Discord will also add an expiration timestamp and a unique signature that is valid until the link expires. These two updates are operational after the link expiry system is implemented.
