Microsoft CEO Admits He Regrets He Has Given Up On Windows Phone

JAKARTA - CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella admitted her company had made a mistake by closing the Windows Phone system a few years after the acquisition of Nokia's mobile business was lifted.

Nadella said that the decision to end the Windows Phone was quite difficult at that time. However, now he regrets his decision and thinks his company can work better.

"If you think about it again, I think there may be a way to make it happen by re-creating the category of computing between a PC, tablet, and a cellphone," Nadella said in the Business Insider report.

In 2015, Microsoft removed the acquisition of the Nokia business worth 7.6 billion US dollars (Rp120 billion). The abolition of this acquisition came a year after Nokia stated that his company had stopped producing cellphones.

A few years later, in 2019 to be precise, Microsoft also stopped developing the Windows Phone system. They asked users to switch to Android and iOS.

After stopping Windows Phone, Microsoft has focused on Android and iOS over the past few years. They even make phones with Android support.

Microsoft launched the Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2 phones in 2021. However, this phone does not have a clear future due to a lack of updates on the software.

In addition, Microsoft is also slow in presenting the latest generation of their phones. Microsoft's steps in developing mobile phones are also unclear.
