US New Export Restrictions On Nvidia's AI Chip Sales To China Begin Applicable

The Nvidia chip design announced that the new US export restrictions on the sale of their advanced artificial intelligence (AI) chips to China took effect on Monday, October 23. This is because regulators are speeding up deadlines.

The restrictions were supposed to take effect 30 days after October 17 when the Biden administration announced measures to prevent countries, including China, Iran, and Russia, from receiving advanced AI chips designed by Nvidia and other companies.

Nvidia does not expect a short-term impact on its revenue from this move, the announcement said on Tuesday, October 24. But they did not explain why the US government had accelerated its implementation time.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), which was also affected by the restrictions, has not responded to requests for comment from the media, while the US Department of Commerce also declined to comment.

Intel, which started selling their Gaudi 2 chips in China in July, said it was "reviewing regulations and assessing its potential impact."

These restrictions prohibit the export of Nvidia-modified advanced AI chips, such as A800 and H800 - both made for the Chinese market to comply with previous export regulations.
