The Launch Of Nintendo 2 Is Getting Closer, What's The Fate Of The Switch?

JAKARTA - Based on some leaks, Nintendo will soon launch next-generation handheld devices next year. That means, it will be the last year in which the Switch is Nintendo's main hardware.

If this news is true, it looks like Nintendo will not let the device just shut down. In fact, 2023 has been one of the strongest Switch years to date.

First, we can see the success of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom which was released last May with a score rating of 96. Also, the biggest title of the Super Mario franchise, namely Super Mario Bros. which will be released on October 20.

"We want to create a game with more things to offer than ever before, so this time, we don't set a fixed period of time for development, which we usually decide before we get started," said Mario's longtime developer, Takashi Tezuka, explaining in an interview launched The Verge.

Over the years, the Switch has gone through some relatively quiet periods in terms of a big new release, but this year, Nintendo has really managed to keep up with its schedule.

Although Mario and Zelda are clearly headliners, the ranks have been refined with the launch of Pikmin 4, some of the upcoming Pokémon releases, and titles such as WarioWare: Move It! and Super Mario RPGs.

We have the same idea to try to create something new and impressive Shigeru Miyamoto, while partnering with Universal for Super Nintendo World.

So, this could be the most important console transition in Nintendo's history. After the dark period of Wii U, Nintendo used the Switch to prove that they could offer an integrated version of its console and portable business.

In fact, sales of the Nintendo Switch hybrid handheld device, eventually surpassed Wii's sales on the United States (US) market during July 2023.

Data from Games Industry Biz's circular also states that Switch's lifetime sales are also pursuing sales of popular consoles in the previous generation, such as Xbox 360 which is less than one million units, and PlayStation 2 is less than five million units.

So, the Switch will probably achieve success in 2023. But, if Nintendo does it right, this year will be the start of something much bigger.
