JAKARTA - As an effort to be more competitive with X (formerly Twitter), Meta seems to be preparing to launch a new feature for Threads Instagram, the Trending Topic feature.

One of the Willianmax threads users, found a screenshot of the Trending Threads feature accidentally posted by Threads employees this weekend.

In the screenshot, similar to Trending topic on X, you can see a list of topics that are currently being discussed, as well as how many 'tweets' are discussing the topic.

"For more details: I'm not a "leaker" or anything like that. I'm just following a lot of engineers and employees who work on Meta, and one of them accidentally posted screenshots meant to be private," Willianmax wrote in his follow-up Threads.

"Fortunately for us, I happened to see it at the right time. I will not reveal who posted the screenshot for clear reasons," he added.

Although this Trending Threads feature is not as wide as X's, the presence of this feature could be a step forward for Meta for its application.

Recently Threads reportedly managed to penetrate 100 million registrants when it was first launched in July. However, this number of users decreased drastically and significantly in the following weeks.

Insider Intelligence notes that Threads users in the United States (US) will reach 23.7 million by the end of 2023. When compared to Elon Musk's platform, X is estimated to have 56.1 million active users in the US by the end of 2023.

Apart from losing to X, Threads are also far behind other platforms covered by Meta. Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are predicted to have 177.9 million, 135.2 million, and 102.3 million in the US by the end of 2023, respectively.
