JAKARTA - Brave Software, the company behind Brave Browser and Browser Search confirmed that they have dismissed 9 percent of its staff across the department.

However, the company did not specify how many employees were affected. But they said that the reason for this decision was due to economic problems.

"Brave removed some positions as part of our cost management in this challenging economic environment. Several departments were affected, which included 9 percent of our staff," a Brave spokesperson told TechCrunch in a statement.

The company has taken steps to increase its source of revenue by releasing its own search API in May, for clients with packages ranging from $3 (Rp46 thousand) per 1,000 queries.

API also offers different packages for AI data model training, data with storage rights, spelling checks, and automated suggestions. Last month, Brave introduced the results of its images, news, and videos as part of its Search API.

In August, the browser, known for its focus on privacy, announced the launch of image and video search features on its Brave Search platform.

Brave has also tested the original AI assistant Leo for its browser. While planning to provide it for all users, Brave says that Leo will have premium levels with features such as higher tariff limits and access to more conversation models.
