Crypto Donation Restriction Bill In Kansas Postponed Until January 2024

A legislative bill in the state of Kansas, United States, aimed at limiting and banning cryptocurrency donations in a political campaign has been postponed until January 2024.

Legislators at the Kansas People's Representative Council introduced the HB 2167 Bill on January 25, 2023. As Cointelegraph has previously reported, the bill aims to impose a $100 limit on all political donations in general elections in the state. The bill also asks politicians to "directly convert" crypto donations to US dollars, without the possibility of spending or storing the funds.

However, the bill was removed from schedule after failing to comply with the state's Rule 1507, which regulates "Handling Bills submitted to Specific Time Limits," forcing some bills to adhere to strict time limits.

The bill was specifically intended for political donations in Bitcoin, and in 2017, the Kansas Government's Ethics Commission stated that cryptocurrency contributions were too secret. California authorities also banned political donations in cryptocurrencies in 2018, but then withdrew from the decision in July 2022.

Meanwhile, nine US Senators joined forces to support the Senator's Anti-Digital Asset Money Laundering Act, Elizabeth Warren. Senator Warren welcomed this new support and said that their bipartisan bill was the strictest proposal in tackling the illegal use of cryptocurrencies and providing more tools to regulators.
