JAKARTA - The social media platform for sharing short videos, TikTok will soon launch a new tool to help content creators label content created using artificial intelligence (AI).

In its announcement, TikTok said that the launch of this label was due to the increasing number of creators who utilize AI to increase their creativity.

"We want to support transparent and responsible content creation practices," wrote the company, quoted Wednesday, September 20.

The new tool also aligns with TikTok's Community Guidelines synthetic media policy, introduced earlier this year. Where the policy requires the public to label AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio or video.

The point is to help viewers realize the authenticity of the video and prevent the potential spread of misleading content.

To launch this AI-generated content label, TikTok claims to have collaborated with several experts, including Dr. David G. Rand from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

"It is critical for platforms to develop effective labeling policies. We found that across demographic groups globally, the term 'AI-generated' is widely understood as applying to content generated by AI," said Rand.

This new label is planned to be launched this week. The company will also continue to evaluate its tools in collaboration with its community.

"Our goal in this effort is to leverage existing content disclosures, such as TikTok effect labels, and find a clear, intuitive, and nuanced way to keep our community informed about AI-generated content," he concluded.
