Tencent Holdings announced that the company could now use its large artificial intelligence (AI) model, "Hunyuan," when presenting this highly anticipated product amid the competition of technology companies to become AI champions in China.

The Chinese technology giant, who also owns the social media platform WeChat, demonstrated in front of a live audience at a conference in Shenzhen and said that Hunyuan has been the basis for its more than 50 products and services.

"In July, there were more than 130 big language models in China," said Jiang Jie, Vice President of Tencent. "The hundred-model war has begun."

This Hunyuan debut comes after several Chinese technology companies, including Baidu Inc and SenseTime Group, recently introduced their own AI model.

Tencent, China's highest-value internet company, said that Hunyuan has more than 100 billion parameters and is trained with more than 2 trillion tokens, two metrics that are often used to measure AI model strength.

The Tencent model, which speaks Chinese and English, is claimed to be "better" than OpenAI's ChatGPT in areas such as writing long texts with thousands of words and solving certain mathematical problems.

Tencent also claims that the model experienced 30% fewer "halusinations" compared to Meta Platform Inc's Llama 2 model. AI experts often describe moments where AI models produce misinformation but present it as if it were a fact as a "smooth."

There is no independent verification regarding Tencent's claim. ChatGPT and Meta did not immediately respond to comment on the report
