John Warnock, Gives Birth To Technology That Changes The Digital World

JAKARTA - One of the founders of Adobe, Dr. John Warnock passed away on Saturday, August 19. He left behind a wife of Alva Warnock and his three children.

"It is with deep sadness that I share that one of our beloved founders, Dr. John Warnock, died at the age of 82," said Adobe Chairman and CEO Shantanu Narayen in his official statement, quoted Monday, August 21.

"John's technological brilliance and innovation is changing the world. It's been a sad day for the Adobe community and the industry where he has been an inspiration for decades," he added.

Warnock himself co-founded Adobe in 1982 with Dr. Charles Geschke after meeting as a colleague at Xerox.

Their first product was Adobe PostScript, an innovative technology that sparked a desktop publishing revolution.

Then, Warnock retired as CEO in 2000 and he became chairman of the board, the position he shared with Geschke, until 2017. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since then.

"The vision and passion allows Adobe to deliver innovative innovations such as Illustrator, the ubiquitous PDF file format and Acrobat, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro, which define the desktop era and free up creativity and opportunities for millions of people," said Naryen.

In recognition of their technical achievements, Warnock was awarded the prestigious National Medal of Technology and Innovation by the President of the United States (US) Barack Obama at that time.

He also received the Computer Entrepreneur Award from the IEE Computer Society, the Achievement Medal of the American Electronics Association and Prizes for contributions to information and communication science. However, the exact cause of Warnock's death is not yet known.
